After reading the three articles I was able to get a better understanding of what genre means. Genre can be defined as a category of artistic composition. This could be seen in art, music, and literature. Compositions can be classified in multiple genres depending on the similarities in style and content that they share with other works. Understanding genres and how compositions fit into them can be very useful. Texts, essays, songs, youtube videos, and movies are all types of genres. You can choose to format your ideas into different genres in order to appeal to certain audiences. For instance, you wouldn't format a text to your best friend the same way you would a resume. It is important to remember your audience and the argument you are trying to present when choosing what mode, media, and genre you are going to use. The last time I composed was for my Spanish 3 final. It was a group project video of a news forecast. We wanted to make the video appealing to our audience (our classmates and professor) so we made sure the video included subtitles, background music, and smooth transitions. To appeal to our peers we made our video more humorous by interviewing random students on Landis Green and getting their opinions on current events. Our video was made more effective and persuasive by combining medias and crafting our video to be both informative and interesting to watch.
